THE FILM RELEASED. Line of work that investigates the relationship between image and sound, cinema and music, and the possibilities of real-time soundtrack composition.
It goes without saying that music plays a crucial role in cinema. We know that it has the power to transport the viewer to the world represented on the screen and increase their engagement with the narrative. From epic orchestral scores to soundscapes that blend in with "non-musical" sounds, the soundtrack is a powerful tool that filmmakers use to convey messages, set the tone, and create memorable cinematic moments.
In addition to generating environments and sustaining the narrative, in the encounter between sound and image, we can manipulate time and rhythm. It can speed up or slow down the perceived passage of time, intensify or lighten the pulse, and emphasize momentous moments. A well-timed crescendo, a sudden silence, a timbral or register variation, can heighten the impact of a climactic scene or a turn in speech, leaving the audience captivated and emotionally invested.
And the emotions and messages conveyed through music can be universally understood. It becomes a universal language that unites people and amplifies the impact of visual storytelling.
Advised by Fon Cortizo, Lucía Estévez or Álvaro Gago, among other Galician filmmakers, the ORQUESTRA GALEGA DE LIBERACIÓN investigates the deep and intimate relationship that unites sound with image, the soundtrack with film. Music with cinema.
